One last “How-I-spent-my-summer-vacation” blog post here and tomorrow I promise to be back to Buzzy’s, beer, bait and booze content.
Any mention of or discussion about Lake Sunapee will invariably land on Steven Tyler and his home there. When Dave Blohm gave us a boat tour of the Lake he pointed out Steven’s house to us and I took this photo. (As we motored out of the harbor for Reagan and Ben’s wedding, our boat Captain also pointed it out to everyone onboard.)
Steven’s house was just one of many very nice homes on Lake Sunapee. As we motored around the Lake, I recalled the Buzzy line “I smell money” because many of the lake homes were just spectacular. In fact, Steven’s was a little humble in comparison to some of the other huge homes and mansions scattered among the hills surrounding the Lake.
Back home here in Maryland, Brady passed along this video of Oprah riding around the area with Steven as he gave her a tour of his hometown. Note there are three towns surrounding the 8 mile Lake: Newbury at the south end, Sunapee in the middle, and New London up north.
I had to laugh when Oprah pointed out the Wild Goose Country Store (1:54.) (Sure sounded like Oprah slipped into her southern accent when she said “Country Store!”)
Caitie and Brady visited it their first day in Sunapee with Brady texting me this photo and note:
Wild Goose was what I call a “Yankee Candle Country Store” that is little more than an upscale gift shop disguised as an old timey country store. Of course, Sunapee is a tourist town, so else what would you expect?!
Oprah also pointed out The Anchorage restaurant where Steve and Joe Perry first met. It is now known as The Blue Canoe:
One of my favorite Aerosmith tunes falls in that category of songs where the music is fun and upbeat, but the lyrics are heavy and bleak. Think Beatles’ Maxwell Silver Hammer and Bruce’s Johnny 99 as examples. Steven and Joe make that list too with this one. Another tune you will be humming all day. Doo-doo-doo-da-dum.
