Pam and I toured Lisbon several years ago and liked it so much that we made a return visit there a few weeks ago. Of all the European “Capitol Cities” (London Paris, Rome, Athens, Madrid etc.) Lisbon may just be my favorite.
Here is a Wiki photo of their Marquis de Pombal Square:

Marquis of Pombal was the title given to their Secretary of State Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo who was responsible for rebuilding Lisbon following their 1755 earthquake that destroyed most of the city. Our tour guide informed us that the lion accompanying Pombal is a symbol of strength. However, he noted that “If one is brave enough all felines are cats.” Not sure where he was going with that comment.
That reminded me of this great Al Stewart tune. Here is a live version that starts with a nice piano solo and ends with maybe the best rock sax solo ever. In between are some great lyrics and a couple of guitar solo’s. Outstanding tune – talk about cat power!
Note: National Cat Day is 29 October and I was initially saving this post until then. However, I am still in a post-vacation frame of mind and did not have anything else to pass along today, so here it is two weeks early. All of which brings up the imponderable – If the early bird gets the worm, does an early cat get the bird?
