Chief Larry, Pat Woodburn and I interviewed Al Gough the other day for a future Buzzy Podcast.
In the course of our conversations with Al, he mentioned growing up near Saunders Store located on the corner of Rt. 5 and Hollywood Rd.. I did some digging and found the following info on that store.

Thanks to Massey’s “You Know You’re From St. Mary’s” FB page, I found this article courtesy of Frankie Tippett:

Joseph Saunders was partners with Joseph Drury whom Al noted at one time owned most of the property in that area.

Elmer Hall ran the store until the Rt. 5 road construction forced him to relocate a couple of miles further out on Hollywood Road where it intersected with St. John’s Road.
From inside the Store, here are some other Frankie-provided photos:

Quick observation here, I love looking at these old interior store photo’s and am always amazed at just how much “stuff” they had in stock. Al mentioned Saunders having a sign to the effect “If we don’t have it, you don’t need it.” Sharon Abell said something similar when she made this comment about Saunders Store:

Elmer Hall continued that tradition at both locations of the Store. Witness these comments:

Note that the Al Gough Buzzy Podcast will appear here on the Buzzyblog on Super Bowl Monday 9 February. We have our interview with Pam and Pat Birmingham set for this coming Monday’s Podcast.
Music-wise, Bruce and Tom have been in the news a lot lately, so lets play something from them. Be sure to catch Tom’s guitar solo (6:00) followed by his Jimi-impersonation (7:00.)
