As a prelude to the following Jon Stewart video, I have two small world Jon Stewart stories for you.
I recently went to an optometrist in Fairfax and in talking to him learned that his son is currently attending William & Mary (Jon Stewart’s alma mater.) Turns out his son plays soccer and was awarded the Leibowitz Award which is named in honor of Stewart for having played soccer at W&M. Jon Stewart’s real name is Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz. The optometrist said “I think my son receiving this award is a good thing but then again I’m not sure that it’s in the team clown or smart ass category!”
Second small world story involves a recent visit Pam and I made to New York to visit with our friends Ninan and Giovana. Pam and Ninan met when they were attending Harvard’s Business School and have stayed in touch through the years. We vacationed with them in Charleston a few years back and at the time Ninan was considering accepting a position with a publishing firm in Manhattan which he ultimately accepted.
Last year we visited them in their penthouse apartment in TriBeCa and in marveling at how nice their place was with their private elevator and all they noted that Jon Stewart was their neighbor. (Note this bio note from Stewart’s wikipedia entry “In 2005, Stewart purchased and moved into a $5.8 million 6,000-square-foot TriBeCa loft penthouse in downtown Manhattan.” Despite several trips in and out of the apartment during my stay there, I never did get to see or meet Jon that weekend. Guess he may have been away at W&M awarding that year’s “Leibowitz Award” winner.
