Here’s a story brought to my attention by our very own member of the Cherokee Nation Charlie Simms. In case you haven’t heard, the Cherokee Nation is having a major controversy in trying to elect their Principal Chief (click here for details.) Now, after two election results have been thrown out, they are set to re-vote on 24 September. Thus, Charlie received the following letter (below) from Principal Chief Chad “Corntassel” Smith the other day. From the little bit of internet research I did here, it looks like the run off is getting ugly too click here. I’d make some Dan Snyder-related joke about all this, but don’t want to risk offending anyone. Charlie had the best line though when someone asked him if he really was a Cherokee and he said, “Yes. That’s why I joined the Navy because I knew that was the only way I was ever going to make Chief.”
