OK, I admit George was my favorite Beatle but mostly because I thought that John and Paul were just too smarmy and Ringo too silly. So I watched the Scorsese documentary on George “Living in the Material World’ (click here for info) and as always with anything to do with the Beatles, it made me re-appreciate that I was able to witness and enjoy their musical run. Here’s a link to a review of the documentary and includes a lot of things about George and his life that Scorsese omitted for whatever reasons he did so click here.
Best quote in the movie though comes from Ringo who is sort of the opposite of serious, always looking for meaning in life George: “Please, God, I don’t know what a goofball like me did to deserve this life, but thank you very much, and please let me know if I’m doing anything that would cause you to end it.” That’s a good prayer for many of us don’t you think? (Ringo also has another funny moment in the movie when he starts to tear up and references Barbara Walters.)
Thought I’d include a George song/video here but the one I wanted to show you has its embed feature disabled. I like it because it was produced by and features many of the Monty Python cast whom George was friends with and made a couple movies with. Suggests that perhaps George was not as serious and humorless as he sometimes appeared to have been. You can see that video by clicking here. Below then is a Ringo tune that he and George co-wrote. Funny how songwriter teams Lennon/McCartney sounds so familiar and yet Harrison/Starr sounds so weird.
