As you drive down Medley’s Neck road, right across from the turn off to Breton Beach Road, there is an old Breyers Ice Cream sign on the side of the road. Since this sign is similar to the Breyers sign that used to be here at Buzzy’s Country Store (see Mary Lou Troutman print below,) I’ve been trying to contact the owners to see if they want to be rid of it. (I’ll have it spruced up and reinstall it here at the Store.) Someone told me the property belonged to the Bells. I contacted my friend Susie Bell Couisneau, whom I used to work with on Base years ago, and asked her about the property. Susie sent me a nice letter discussing the sign and property. “The property use to be Wise’s Store. I remember riding my bike there for popsicles. The Wise family sold it to a Mr. Robert Cammack, also from Medley’s Neck. Records show it sold to Mr. and Mrs. Ritter…. The sign and country store was one of the last pictures that my Mom was painting before she died and I have it hanging in my house, how ironic that the sign has so many memories.”
Susie is going to send me a copy of her Mom’s painting. When I receive it, I’ll pass it along. Meanwhile, if any of you know the Ritters there in Medley’s Neck, tell them that Buzzy’s has a nice home for their sign and we’ll take better care of it!
