A young lady named Amy stopped in Buzzy’s Country Store yesterday and asked about a strange looking bird that she had just seen at St. Mary’s City. Brian Barnhill was also in the Store and he noted that he seen an osprey at his home the day before and that’s probably what Any had seen. While Amy looked for a picture she had taken on her cell phone (above) I googled “osprey – picture” and found several examples of the “Fish Hawk” including this one of the V-22:
As the following article notes (click here) St. Patty’s Day always seems to be the ospreys’ approximate return date from their winter home in South America. Greg Madjeski was in the Store later and noted that he’d been told it was always 16 March that ospreys return. If that’s the case it leads me to wonder one thing – how’d they know that this year was a leap year!
