Drink When You Get to the End of Your Row

Tyler Breaking Mr. Mueller’s Rule

Terri’s son Tyler Yates was helping me move some furniture in the apartments behind Buzzy’s Country Store yesterday morning.  With temps in the upper 90’s,  he and I were starting to drag as the morning wore on.  Around 11:00, I told Tyler that we’d move one more item and then call it a day.  Tyler asked me, “Do you think I could get something to drink before we do that?”  I debated whether or not to pass along Judy Raley’s and her Dad Mr. Mueller’s advice on when to stop or not stop for something to drink.

Judy once told me that when she was a young girl cutting tobacco, she wanted to stop and get a drink of water.  However, her father told her to “Always wait until you get to the end of your row before you drink your water.”  Meaning – finish cutting the row of tobacco you were on and then take  a break to get something to drink.  Judy said she always remembered that and had used it as a guide whenever she was doing a task that she wanted to take a break from doing.

Instead of relaying all this to young Tyler though, I went in the Store and got him a Gatorade.  I’m not sure he would have appreciated the tobacco reference anyhow.
