I Told You So

Seeing the Kansas website (above) with its depiction of the ship going over the earth’s edge reminded me of a poster that I first saw in a restaurant in St. Michael’s on the Eastern Shore several years ago.  Larry Crum and I had done a road trip to St. Michael’s and were eating lunch at a restaurant where I first saw this painting (below) on display.

A few years later, Pam and I made a return visit to the restaurant but the painting was not displayed.  I asked the owner what happened to it and she said that she had gotten so tired of people asking her if they could buy it that she took it down and put it in her office.  She then let Pam and me take a look at it in her office.  She informed us that she had suggested to the book store owners across the street to procure and sell copies of the print.  We then purchased a copy from the book store.

I did some checking on the painting and found that the creator is Ed Miracle.  Turns out that Ed has had quite the time clarifying his ownership of the painting (click here for story.)  Thomas Friedman actually used it for his book The World is Flat before Mr. Miracle objected and had Friedman remove it (see video below)
