Conversation in Buzzy’s Country Store the other day involved running into one of those 60’s/70’s’ druggies who today asks you if you’ve accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal savior. You know the type of dude I’m talking about – back in the day he was so blown out of his mind that the only thing religious about him was playing “Stairway to Heaven” at full volume. Now today, he has seen the light and feels compelled to bother you with his discovery. Leads me to wonder if the drug lobe in the brain is not proximate to the religious one. Perhaps being “reborn” is a logical next step for those always looking for something.
I mention all this because the Christian song/video below is by John Elefante who used to be the lead singer of Kansas. They did “Dust in the Wind,” “Carry On Wayward Son,” and “Point of Know Return.” I think of all the time I listened to those boys in a blitzed out state of mind and in particular recall some Army buddy sitting on a bunk high as a kite with Kansas playing on the stereo and him saying “Wow, point of k-n-o-w return. Get it? Man that’s heavy.” Felt like saying “No it’s not dude, you’re just stoned.”
Regardless, I always think of that guy whenever Classic Rock plays the song. Don’t know what ever became of him, but I’m betting that today he’s a born again somewhere. For all I know, he may even have his own church – the “Know Return Church.” Get it?
