Picture of Lily and Emma

Here’s a great photo of granddaughters Lily and Emma.   Photo was taken by Emma’s Mom Stephanie as the two soccer ladies headed to the field. (Good to see Cal’s #8 on Lily.)

Lily and Emma

Reminded me of the Who song “Pictures of Lily.”  I was familiar with the song, but never knew its background.  Turns out that it was about Lillie Langtry a British “socialite” who made the royal rounds so to speak.  Following is from Wikipedia:

Langtry was possibly the subject of The Who’s 1967 song, “Pictures of Lily”, about a young man infatuated by the image of a woman named Lily; the fact that her death occurred in 1929 (as mentioned in the song) gives credence to this theory.

Here are some of the lyrics and video:

I used to wake up in the morning
I used to feel so bad
I got so sick of having sleepless nights
I went and told my dad

He said, ‘Son now here’s some little something’
And stuck them on my wall
And now my nights ain’t quite so lonely
In fact I, I don’t feel bad at all
