My Good Neighbor

Pinky Nagel and Charlie Simms

Pat Adams told me that he was in a local business recently and the proprietor asked him where he was working.  After Pat had said “J. Scott’s place in Piney Point,” the owner asked “How you getting along with that neighbor George?”  Turns out that the owner reads the Buzzyblog and knew all about El-Turdo George from my post on him.  Guess I’ve made old George infamous.

However, just as George sits at the far end of the not-cool spectrum, my neighbor next door to me is at the other end when it comes to being a genuinely nice guy.

I’ve been very fortunate to have lived next door to and to have known Ken “Pinky” Nagel for over 30 years.  Throughout those years he has always been the nicest and most pleasant of individuals you could ever hope to know.  As an example of what a stand up guy Pinky is, I invited him to ride down to Buzzy’s Country Store this past Monday to help celebrate Charlie Simm’s 86th birthday.  (Pinky and Charlie were in the Navy together and have been friends for years.)  Without hesitating Pinky said, “Yeah I’ll ride down.  Thanks for reminding me that it was his birthday.”  And later that day at the Store, Pinky rolled in to celebrate with Charlie (picture above.)

Pinky worked on Base for years as the head of the Woodworking Shop and helped many folks out with various plans and projects.  I consider myself very blessed to have had him as a good neighbor and friend for all these years.  (P.S. to show you what a good guy he is, Pinky even gets along with my not-so-good neighbor George.)
