Waaaaaay Down Inside

Saw where Led Zeppelin is releasing a new CD package (click here)  and it reminded me of the one and only time I ever sniffed glue.

Back in the day, Pat Guy had a Chevelle named appropriately enough Mellow Yellow.  In addition to having a 396 engine it had an eight track tape player and a set of gigantic speakers in the back.  One night PG and I were rolling around Ridge listening to Led Zeppelin II when we began to sniff some Testor’s glue from a paper bag.

Next thing I knew I was semi-comatose and very, very lost in the music.  Whole Lotta Love in particular ripped through my head as the song’s  special effects rolled around in PG’s car.  Listen here for yourself and even on a little laptop you can hear the stereo separation and the special effects in the song.  Imagine being ripped and listening to it.  In my glue induced haze, somewhere around the middle of the song (approx. from the 1:45 mark on) I simply lost  it and thought my head was going to explode.

Every time that tune plays to this day, I still get a little dizzy and shake my head thinking about that experience.  Leads me to conclude that perhaps I should have written my own version of “I’ll Never Smoke Weed With Willie Again” except I would have to substitute “I’ll Never Sniff Glue With PG Again.”
