Rainy Day Songs

Talk of rain heading our way naturally makes me think of my favorite rain-related songs.  I’ve previously discussed my numero uno rain tune  “Rhythm of the Falling Rain” which was the first 45 I ever bought.  (If you don’t know what a 45 is or was, just stop reading.)

But there are also favorites like “Rain Drops Keep Falling on My Head,”  Temptations’ “I Wish it Would Rain,” and Dylan’s “A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall.” Mick and Keith even have a catchy little rain song too that I like (click here.)

And yet, my all time favorite rain song is one that’s been played alot recently following the death of Ray Manzarek – “Riders on the Storm.”  Lyric-wise I always thought it was a little lame with all that “dog without a bone, sweet family will die” Jim Morrison bs, but the music is great.

In the following video, Ray explained how the song came to be.  In particular, check out when Ray rolls downs the entire keyboard (3:00 and 7:00 marks) with runs that even sound like rain is coming down.  Makes you want to grab an umbrella.
