This past weekend the McCoys held a family reunion. On Saturday afternoon several of them assembled at Buzzy’s Country Store to help Andrew celebrate turning 21. Andrew is Mary and David Blohm’s son. He is shown here seated in the middle and holding his first legally purchased beer which his Uncle Jody bought for him. Andrew marks the second McCoy grandson who has purchased his first legal beer at Buzzy’s. A couple years ago Ann and Walt’s son Matt also bought his first beer at Buzzy’s on his 21st birthday.
Speaking of Jody, he showed me this photo of the 1884 Stevens Institute Football Team and his Great Grandfather after whom he was named – Joseph Sylvester McCoy. Jody told me that his namesake is shown in the picture seated in front of the tree while the gentleman standing to the left of Jody’s Grandpa is Samuel Prescott Bush – George Bush Sr.’s Grand dad.
(Please note – I may have misheard Jody on who is who here because the Wiki photo of Bush (right) looks alot like the dude who is seated. So maybe Jody I is standing and Bush is the seated dude in the photo. Leads me to ask “Will the real McCoy please stand up?”)
Anyway, they were teammates on the 1884 Stevens Football team. However, check out something I found about the 1883 team where Stevens defeated Michigan 5 – 1 by employing “scientific football”. You know how those engineers are!
