College football begins its Saturday saturation today but all in all it doesn’t move me much. I appreciate all the collegiate atmospheric rah-rah stuff, but overall it just seems a little too boring. That said however, I did find myself reading and enjoying this GQ article on Alabama’s Nick Saban (click here.) Good job of giving us a look at what motivates Saban and how driven he is.
In the comments following the article, someone had this to say:
“There is no doubt other coaches fear playing Saban…. Saban beat Florida at their zenith and their coach saw the writing on the wall and left the conference where he had a chance to win again. Saban beat Arkansas repeatedly and their coach was fired. He beat Tennessee repeatedly and their coach was fired. He beat Vandy repeatedly and their coach was fired. He beat the stuffings out of Auburn the past two years and their coach was fired. I predict that Les Miles and Mark Richt are next….. Saban decimated the ND Crying Irish and the Pope stepped down! Man! If only the White House fielded a team… “
Alabama is a 20+ point favorite over Virginia Tech today. Since it is the first game of the season for both teams, I doubt that Tech’s Coach Frank Beamer will resign when Saban’s Tide rolls over the Hokies. As to laying the 20 and doing some casual wagering though, I may just have to watch some college football after all.
