Detroit is alive and well – at least sports-wise. Brady and I did our annual baseball trip this year to Detroit. We had been there previously in 1999 when we caught the Tigers at the old Tiger Stadium which has since been torn down. This time around, we also caught a Lions football game at Ford Field. Although the baseball game we attended saw the Tigers lose to the Twins 7-6, the Tigers are still in first place in the AL Central by 6 games. They also have a team batting average of 282 which is the highest in all of MLB, so we’ll see how that “good pitching beats good hitting” adage goes this post-season as the Tigers look pretty good to me.
Thursday night we witnessed the Lions destroy New England 40-9. Photo to the left was taken by a very nice lady at Ford Field, home of the Lions. Brady subsequently posted this on his Facebook page. Leave it to my nephew Todd Taylor to have the best response to Brady: “Is that Magnum PI with you?” Never been compared to Magnum/Tom Selleck so I guess I should have picked up a Detroit Tiger hat long before Thursday. May even have to grow back my mustache.
Ford Field was a great facility to watch a game and as Brady noted, it’ll make Thanksgiving Day’s game a little more interesting now that we know the park’s layout.
Speaking of the Tigers’ hat that yours truly and Magnum wear so well, it is now in the Buzzy hat collection at the Store.
However, there was also a hot selling T-shirt for sale, not within the stadiums’ confines, but on the streets by fast talking vendors. You can see the shirt on the kid in the photo below. On the back it reads “If you don’t bleed blue, take your bitch ass home.” Brady and I passed on the shirt, but did heed the advice and made our way back to the County Friday afternoon.

And while we’re talking about tigers and you-know-whating, there is this:
