Talking Baseball and Conspiracies

Half of the Stadium Loses Power at SB XLVII

Football tonight.  Have you seen where Ray Lewis is alleging that the lights were purposely turned off in the Super Bowl to preclude the Ravens from blowing out the 49rs?  (Click here for that story.)

And yet, in the history of Baltimore-sports-related conspiracy theories involving stadium power outages, Ray’s allegation(s) still rank number two to this one about Cal Ripken, his wife Kelly and her supposed liaison with Kevin Costner (click here.

As noted, the Orioles did have a ball game cancelled in 1997 due to a power failure, with the conspiracy theory stating that it was because Cal was too shook up to play after discovering his wife in bed with Costner.   Snopes.com ultimately deemed the conspiracy theory false, but it did sound like Costner and Kelly were friends.

Have no idea about the validity of any of that, but do know that in 1999 Costner released a movie he starred in as an aging ball player who meets and falls for a very nice lady named Jane.  Now, guess the name of the actress who played Jane?  Kelly Preston.  First name coincidence?  Not me mind you, but there are conspiracists who feed on these kind of coincidences.  Go Ravens.  Hopefully, Costner doesn’t know Joe Flacco’s wife Dana.
