Oyster Wars Pt. 2

I finally uploaded the oyster article I mentioned the other day.  It is from the County Historical Society’s newsletter of 1996 (click here type Oyster Wars in Search, then click on Documents and the article should appear.)

Article is by Al Gough and gives a good history of the oyster wars and Senator J. Frank Raley’s  legislation to try and resolve the issue between Maryland and Virginia.   While J. Frank may have succeeded in resolving the conflict, as Al hints at in his subtitle, J. Frank will always be accused of giving the river away.

Article also contains several photo’s featuring some South County gentlemen who worked on the water as Tidewater Police.  On Page 118 there is my Uncle Cotton Ridgell along with Mark Pratt, Mace Birch and Harry Yeatman.  (Harry is also in the cover photo (above) with “his life long friend Dukie White.”)
