Rainy Day

Just don’t feel right on a rainy day.  When the sun is nowhere to be seen, I feel like hiding somewhere too.  Whenever I feel this way, it reminds me of a lady  I met years ago in my Government-worker-life.  She worked in the building that I managed and complained to her supervisors of having Seasonal Affect Disorder which was a new one on me at the time.  (Thanks to the women that I’d known well to that point in my life, I thought that I had heard of all the new age disorders that were out there to be had, but SAD was a new one to me.)

The lady explained how she was going to a doctor for it and that he had suggested that she sit near a window at work where of course there were no windows to be found.  Thus, as the manager of the building in which she resided, I was “enlisted” to see if we could improve the lighting over her desk.  Again, I thought all of this was b.s. but played along humoring her and arranged for the right folks to try to have the light output above her cubicle increased.  She was appreciative of my efforts and seemed to be ok with the increased light.  She also installed on her cubicle wall a nice poster showing a beachfront scene with bright sunshine which may have helped her mood more than the increased lighting did.

Fast forwarding then, in an ironic kind of way, with age I think that I’ve gotten a bit of this SAD thing going on in my little world.  As stated, I just don’t feel quite right with no sun out.  Compounding things and some may say the main reason for my semi-depression, is the Buzzy in me coming out because a rainy Saturday/Sunday weekend means lousy business in the Store.  The tourists, day trippers and bikers aren’t out and about when it’s raining and as a result business will be slow on a rainy day.  Thank God then for my friends who pop into the Store come rain or shine.  Makes my day a little brighter after all and not just because they are dropping some coin in the register.
