Rum Chata

In recognition of Shrove Tuesday, thought I would pass along something on Rum Chata.

One day last summer, Joe Salvo and Capt. Jimmy Cullison rolled into Buzzy’s Country Store having just been to Vera’s White Sands over in Calvert County.  They were feeling pretty good and attributed it to this great drink Rum Chata that they had knocked back at Vera’s.  They encouraged me to start stocking it. 

I followed the Buzzy advice/rule of not being too quick to stock what he called “off the wall” requests.  “They get on this kick, you order a bunch of it and then they move onto something else and you’re stuck with it on the shelf” was Buzzy’s reasoning.  Thus, I held off ordering any Chata.  Buzzy also had a Rule of  3, where you wait for three requests for something, before you begin to stock it.  I’ve been a little more open to customers’ requests/suggestions, sometimes stocking an item after one or two requests, but in general, the Buzzy rule is a good one.  

I didn’t think anymore about it until Jimmy and Joe asked me several days later where was the Chata.    Ignoring the Buzzy rule, I then tracked some down and started stocking it.  

As it turns out, Joe and Jimmy aren’t the only ones who are knocking down the Chata in large quantities, as several other folks are also into it.  I’d say it’s even been going like “hotcakes.” Witness the following:
