Sweet Sixteen Mascots

Buzzy Sweet Sixteen Pool

Sweet Sixteen tonite.  I once heard of a lady who filled out her NCAA brackets based upon which mascot she felt would defeat the other team’s mascot in a one-on-one fight.    Evidently she was not the only one to use this logic.  Here is a report of a pool that does just that and even has a name for it – Mascot Deathmatch  click here.

The Sweet Sixteen brackets include a couple of bears, wildcats, and cardinals, along with a huskie dog, a badger, a wolverine, and a gator.  Non-animals include a Spartan, a Cavalier, an Aztec, a volunteer and a flyer.  Then we have the Cyclones from Iowa State.  Based on this trumped up video, maybe we should bet on the UCLA Bruins against the Florida Gators tonite. Oddsmakers have made Florida a 4.5 favorite.  Biggest favorite tonite however, the Arizona Wildcats @ 7.5 over the San Diego State Aztecs.  When I wondered if anyone has objected to San Diego using an Aztec as their mascot, I found that they made the top ten list of controversial mascots (click here.)  Also, learned from this list that the Stanford Cardinal is not a bird after all but is a color and yet, their mascot is a tree!  Very strange.)
