Raymond's General Store

Here’s an old country store still going strong: Raymond’s General Store located east of Chowchilla, California.  On 31 May of this year it celebrated its 100th year anniversary (click here for story.)

I stumbled upon it when I saw this 1992 photo (below) posted on Shorpy.com.  A more recent photo along with a video of their 100th Year party follows.  (Think I like the funky old porch in the 92 photo a little more than the two story upgrade that currently fronts the store.)

The old General Store in Raymond, California. My sister-in-law sits on the steps while I pose proudly with my brand-new 1972 Datsun 1200 – still with its paper plates. The building dates from 1890 and is still there today – so is the tree. Risking life and limb, my brother crossed bustling Raymond Road to take this Kodachrome with my Konica Autoreflex T.

A car show and a gun fight?  That may or may not be a good idea!
