Saw who I thought was Gerald McRaney on NCIS the other night playing a musician whom someone had tried to kill (click here for show synopsis.) As Jethro and the crew were trying to track down the would-be killer, the story also involved relocating an upcoming music concert to Pax River. (Everytime NCIS mentions Pax River, I always get a “Hey-that’s-pretty-cool vibe.”)
But back to who I thought was McRaney. At the time that I was watching NCIS, I couldn’t recall either his name nor the old T-V show that he appeared on playing a private detective with his brother. I knew it was “Something and Something” but for the life of me I couldn’t drag it out.
Turning to the trusty Google machine the next day, I did remember that McRaney married Delta Burke aka Susanne Sugarbaker on Designing Women. (Guilty pleasure confession time, I watched more than one or two episodes of DW back in the day. All those Southern women you know.)
Once I identified McRaney, I was then able to land on “Simon and Simon” as the show that he had starred in along with Jameson Parker. (That helped explain why, when I was trying to recall the name of the show, “Parker and Parker” had crossed my mind.)
Also found this video which at the 1:46 mark mentions that in 1993 Jameson was shot twice by his neighbor in a dispute over dog waste. Sounds like I’m not the only one with a crazy neighbor. For the rest of that story (click here.)
Epilogue to this little meander down memory lane: I discovered that the actor playing the musician on NCIS was Keith Carradine and not Gerald McRaney (Click here.) I’d like to think that maybe that is why I had trouble remembering McRaney’s name – it wasn’t him! Of course that’s not the reason but …..
