We’ve had a couple of milestone birthdays in October so far starting with Charlie Simms on 8 October. Charlie turned 88 and celebrated at Buzzy’s Country Store (just as he does everyday.) Charlie’s longtime friend Pinky Nagel and his son Glenn joined the Buzzy friends and fellow 4 O’clock Club members to wish him a happy birthday.

Story I tell about Charlie is that one recent Saturday afternoon several of us were sitting around the Store discussing how little we had each done that day. Charlie came in and was a little on the messy side with dirt on his shirt and pants and looking like he’d been doing some serious labor. After I asked him what he’d been doing he replied that he had fixed the hand rail, painted the steps, cut some grass and changed the oil in his truck. I shook my head and told the fellas there in the Store with me “It doesn’t say much for us when the 88 year old has done more today than all of us put together!” Bottom line – I want to be just like Charlie when I grow up.
