Jeannie C – The Day She Walked Into Buzzy’s Country Store

One final visitor-related note and then I’ll find some other topic to Buzzy about.  The most famous folks to have ever visited Buzzy’s Country Store were Jeannie C. Riley (I think) and the band Spirit.

I say I think Jeannie C visited the Store because Buzzy wasn’t sure if it was her or not.  She was

scheduled to perform at the ball field adjacent Robinson Barnes in a show sponsored by P&P Brothers.  Buzzy called me at work the afternoon of the show and said “Hey I think that Harper Valley PTA lady was just in here.”  I asked him if he talked to her or got any pictures with her but he said “No she just walked around some, bought a Coke and then went out the door.”

So I asked him “How’d you know it was her?” Buzzy said “Well, she was real pretty and she had all this hair piled up on her head.”  Based on that description, I’m fairly sure that Jeannie C was indeed in Buzzy’s.

Spirit was definitely in Buzzy’s because he again phoned me at work to tell me “Hey that band you’re going to see at the college tonite was just in here.  One of them was bald headed but the rest of them all had long hair.  They said they’d been down Pt. Lookout and were heading back to the college for sound rehearsal.”

The bald headed dude was Spirit’s drummer Ed Cassidy and sure enough that night at the college he mentioned how nice the area was and that earlier in the day they had been down to the water and enjoyed doing so.  Maybe that is where the opening line of their most famous song comes from “Let me take you baby down to the river bed.”
