Ice in Piney Point, Hookers in Cartagena

Whenever we would return from a trip, Buzzy would always say something along the lines about it’s good to get away but it’s great to come back home.   And I have to agree with him even if coming back home Saturday meant that there was still snow on the ground and ice in the waters.  Check out this great shot from Bryan Swann.

Jenn tells me that Buzzy’s Country Store snowy parking lots were taken care of by Capt. Jimmy Cullison and I thank him for that.  Jimmy, like the everyone else, has to be tired of snow removal.

Jenn also tells me that save for a cop being summonsed to the Store on a domestic-related issue that was peacefully resolved, things were fairly quiet and cool so for that I’m also thankful.  (Speaking of cool, the busted beer walkin box Jenn dealt with thanks to Robbie McKay’s on-the-scene efforts.  My thanks to Robbie for helping avoid the situation where outside temps were in single digits and yet the beer in Buzzy’s wasn’t cold enough.)  So my thanks to Jenn, Larry, BJ, Terri, Robin and Jamie for keeping Buzzy’s chugging while I was helping spread some foreign aid to several of our neighboring Carribbean countries.

Not to bore you with how I spent my vacation-stories – have you ever noticed that whenever people begin a sentence with those two words “Not to” as in “not to change the subject” or “not to interrupt” they always proceed to do just that – I’ll lay out a few snippets of things that caught my attention such as the following during my visit to Cartagena.  I’ll try not to bore you too much.

On a tour bus tooling around the old, historic city of Cartagena  I see a sexy lady, who had that “working girl” look about her.  It sets my mind a wondering  about the Secret Service scandal that occurred there a few years back.

Remember the flail over the President’s Secret Service advance dudes getting into trouble with a hooker because one of the agents wouldn’t pay her? For the complete story click here.  Here is a photo excerpt from it:

Regarding the aftermath of the incident, check out this extended article that does a pretty good job going into all the details about it (click here. Also, I found this video on it:

As for the city of Cartagena itself, I can’t say too much.   With our tour guide having such a heavy accent that made it tough for me to understand what he was saying and my thoughts on hookers to begin with, I didn’t learn much about their culture and history.   Appearance-wise Cartagena looked a little raggedy to me in a seen-its-better-days kind of way.    Whenever I visit somewhere I use a pass/fail evaluation metric of “would I go back there.”  And, like those Secret Service dudes, only for reasons much differently, I don’t plan on making any return visits to Cartagena anytime soon.
