Good Friday and lots of talk about religion and religious freedom (maybe even too much! Just reaffirms doesn’t it, that our Founding Fathers kind of got it right when they tried to keep all of that Church and State stuff separate?!)
Did you know that a federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act has been around since 1993 (click here?) Note the discussion of how the interpretation of the law impacted Native Americans smoking peyote as part of their religious service.
Made me wonder then – what did Catholics do about having all that wine at Mass during the Prohibition? Turns out that they were exempted on religious grounds albeit with some negative side effects (click here) as this excerpt shows:
