I can always tell that a news story has become “a big news story” because it seems that just about everyone who comes into Buzzy’s Country Store will have a comment on it. For instance here are two recent examples.
Someone asked me about the 72,000 ladybugs’ incident at Chopticon High School and wondered why I hadn’t done a Buzzyblog post on it. They said “Seems like that would have been a topic just right for the Buzzyblog.”
While I appreciate that this individual thinks that the Buzzyblog is a good place for off-the-wall stories, I’m not sure what else there is to say about the whole ladybug deal other than – how did they come up with that as an idea in the first place? (Sounds like the latest news on it is that States Attorney Rick Fritz gave them each a 100 hours community service and a $300 fine to be split among the seven who did it (click here.))
And the other popular topic seems to be the Texas floods proving once gain that weather is always a go-to subject a la Mark Twain (maybe) “Everybody talks about it but nobody does anything about it.”

It led me to track down Stevie Ray’s take on it. (Very few ladybug-related songs.) Texas Flood was the title of his first album. However, in another example of it’s-what-you-learn-after-you-know-everything, I always thought that the song was Stevie Ray’s tune only to learn that a Larry Davis wrote and recorded it in 1958 (click here.)
Stevie Ray’s second album was named Couldn’t Stand the Weather so obviously he had some feel for weather-related tunes. (Something else that I wasn’t aware of: Stevie Ray died in 1990 in a helicopter crash strangely similar to the 1959 Big Bopper/Buddy Holly plane crash incident where folks gave up their seats to let someone else go in their place (click here.))
Found this video of Stevie performing Texas Flood. If nothing else, check it out at the 4:20 mark where he plays the guitar behind his back. Just think how cool it would have been if he had released 70,00 ladybugs right after he finished his solo.
