Old Lang Food Lion

Saw her shopping in Food Lion the other day and purposely avoided running into her.  Several years ago, it ended kind of badly between us and I guess I’m still not ready to make it right with her, do closure or whatever other crap it’s called when you are forced to deal with a sticky situation.  So, while she pushed her shopping cart down the produce aisle, I hauled my conflict avoidance ass out the door.

On the drive down to Buzzy’s Country Store,  I was mulling all this over and ironically enough, Dan Fogelberg’s Same Old Lang Syne played on the radio.  Dan talks of a similar predicament where it seemed that he may have handled the situation a little better than I had just done so.

A part of me says “Hey Dan, you were a successful music star, of course your old lovers are going to be nice to you.  Me? I own Buzzy’s.  Your odds of smoothing things over with them are a little better than mine are.”

(Of course it made me curious about the store where Dan and his friend ran into each other.  I tracked it down here:)

Here’s the tune, and as sappy as it may be, I can still sort of relate to it:
Which leads me to conclude that even though Dan and I handled this situation very differently, we both sort of ended up in the same melancholy kind of place.  Next time I run into my old friend, maybe I will buy her a beer after all.  Cue the saxophone.
