The other day bopping around D.C I was trying to explain to the Grandkids how the streets are laid out. I wanted to convey to them that regardless how crazy it looks trying to drive around D.C., there is a system to understanding how it is laid out (click here.)
I told them about numbered streets going one way while the alphabetized streets went the other way. As I was telling them how the streets are alphabetized, I noted that there was no J Street in D.C. and of course they asked me why. I replied that I thought it had something to do with Jefferson having reserved J Street for a street to be named after him but it never happened.
However, later when I got home and Googled it, I wasn’t able to find anything on that (click here.) However I did find this article explaining why there is no J Street in D.C. (click here.)
Street-wise here’s a great tune by Gerry Rafferty. The line “he’s got this dream about buying some land, he’s going to give up the booze and the one night stands” was once on a tape in my head during my carousing years.
