Sports Fans

Red Sox swept the Orioles this past weekend which gives me a good excuse to show you this photo of a Red Sox fan showing off more than her socks.

Too, I included it because at first glance it looks as if it was taken in front of Buzzy’s Country Store.  (Believe me I would have known if these two were, I mean if she was, ever posing in front of Buzzy’s.)

Following the losses to the Red Sox, Orioles are just about eliminated from post-season play. Nationals are not only choking on the field but also choking one another off the field.   Skins and Ravens are stinking up things and Maryland Terps’ football is simply terrible. It all makes me wonder – why do I put so much time and energy into being a sports fan of these teams?

After Googling “Agony of Sports Fans,” I did a walk thru the sports’ psychology sites and found several articles that talk about how sports fans have a shared sense of community and are better adjusted etc.  (click here.)  However, when your team isn’t doing well, and in my case when several of your teams are not doing well, all the opposite stuff kicks in too.  You just don’t feel right.

So why do I do it I then?  Well, a couple weeks ago, when I went to an O’s game with Caitie and Brady, I strolled around the Club Level of Camden Yards with all the pictures and memorabilia from bygone Orioles’ glory days.  It brought back so many good memories that I felt blessed to have been a part of what will go down as the Orioles’ golden years.  Pictures of Hall of Famers Frank, Brooks, Jim, Eddie, Cal and Earl made me realize I was there as a fan for all their accomplishments.  I was very glad to have been a fan then and even now of the Orioles even if they won’t be making the playoffs this year.

Check out this video below of Camden’s Club Level.  Note the World Series trophies at the 1:30 mark.  You can tell that whomever filmed this is a true sports fan first and foremost.  At the 2:07 mark he comes up on a very shapely young lady in a tight pair of jeans showcasing a very nice derriere and yet he veers off from following her to film the 2131 Cal exhibit. Now that’s a sports fan.
