Mark Twain and Winston Churchill were both born today. I recall reading or hearing somewhere that Twain didn’t particularly care for Churchill due mostly to England’s and Churchill’s activities in South Africa. So I did some Googling on the matter and found these accounts:

However, I also found this description of Twain’s introduction of Churchill that evening and it doesn’t sound quite as extreme as the above would lead you to believe (click here.) Also, remember that Churchill was in his 20’s and Twain was in his 60’s when they first met. There may have been some of that generational gap stuff going on too.
