One Day at a Time

From Fireside Musings, here is a poem by Thomas Wheatley who noted in his footnotes: “There is no treasure like living life, and the only real time to live it is in the present.”

Yesterday Calls
I hear the voice of yesterday, calling out its plea,
And saying, “Won’t you please come back and play?
We had such fascinating times, back in Used-to-Be.
I hope that you come home with me to stay.”

I hear Tomorrow’s voice call out, “Just wait until you see
The many things I have in store for you.
My mysteries await you in the time that is to be;
My promises are never, never few.”

Today, Today what do you say? But answer come there none.
For there is no cause for her to speak.
Today and I will walk hand in hand, through toil, love and fun,
Today’s the prize in life that we all seek.

Reminds me of Buzzy’s take, “I never worry about what has happened and only half way worry about what’s going to happen.  Instead, I try to focus on what I’m doing today.”

Remember these guys?  Remember Jimmy Durante?
