Old Habits or Gimme Back My Mondays

Got a dentist appointment this morning and as usual I’m wishing that I didn’t.   Going to the dentist ranks in the lower list of those things you don’t like doing, but have to do regardless how you feel about it – kind of like paying taxes and tweezering out whatever that junk it is that gets in your belly button.  (I just reminded you that you haven’t done that in a while right?)

But  regarding going to the dentist today, I think I may need to learn a new habit here.  You see, out of habit, I have always scheduled my dentist appointments for a Monday.  This started years ago when I was working on Base.  My thought process at the time went: Monday is a schmegged up day to begin with, so why not  make a total write off of it and just go to the dentist too.  At the least, it would get me out of the office for an hour or two.   Thus, I have been going to the dentist on Mondays for many years now.

However, having retired off the Base several years ago and running Buzzy’s Country Store, I now find that Monday is a fairly enjoyable day for me.  Buzzy used to do his banking and running around errands on Mondays.  Since he was at the Store the other 6 days of the week, Monday became a quasi day off for him.     Again, in the old habits’ mode of operating, I have continued to honor the Buzzy tradition of going to the bank on Monday.  Since I am up and down the road every day, I could very well do my banking and errands on any other day I choose to do so, but old habits die hard as they say.

Back to my dentist visit today, I have decided that I am no longer locking in on a Monday.  Today, when I am asked to schedule my next session with them, Mondays will be out of the mix.  (Of course that means I got to pick a new day but I’ll just take whatever day they offer as long as it is not a Monday.)
