Survey Says – No Satisfaction

I used to be a survey guy.  You know, whenever a company or a manufacturer sent me a survey on their product or service, I always thought it was worthwhile to provide them feedback both good and not-so-good.  I saw it as my way of helping to improve their efforts by letting them know how I felt.

However, as I have gotten older, I now do a simple calculus of “Is this really worth the time I am going to invest in doing this?”   Along with completing surveys, there are many things and undertakings that I used to do that now fail this little waste-of-time-test of mine.  It boils down to me realizing that I only have a finite amount of time left here in this big old Country Store of life, so why waste any of it on matters that don’t matter?

But back to surveys, I do my banking with the Bank of America folks and they will occasionally send me an email survey asking that I evaluate a recent teller transaction or business dealing that I had with their personnel.  (According to this breakdown of 20 different marketing surveys this would be a Customer Service Survey (click here.))   However, in keeping with my no-surveys-done policy, I never take the time to respond to these inquiries.

Since I started thinking about the whole survey issue though, I asked a BoA teller the other day if those email surveys amounted to anything re: their performance.  The lady teller informed me that they do.  She informed me that their bonuses are impacted both positively and negatively based upon customer survey inputs.

Thus, I may just have to start doing those BoA surveys because I like thinking that maybe my input may lead to a little bonus bump for the teller(s.)  As for any other surveys I will still take a pass.

Speaking of consumer dissatisfaction, the opening notes of this song have been described as the rock and roll equivalent to Beethoven’s famous 5th Symphony Dum Dum Dum Dum opening.  That Keith ripping off the Master.  (Bet you never made that association.)
