Jerry Richardson

The owner of the Carolina Panthers is Jerry Richardson.  Because he was a Baltimore Colts’ receiver back in the day, I have always kept an eye on what he was up to.  He’s been a busy man.

After the Colts won the 1959 NFL Championship, Jerry took his winning payout (approximately $4,000) and purchased the first Hardees’ franchise.  He would later own and operate the Hardees’ empire. (It is quite a fascinating story on the founding and growth of Hardess (click here.) If you read between the lines, you can tell that a lot of “stuff” went down between the founders, partners and subsequent owners of the Hardees corporation.)

In 1993 Jerry became the first former NFL player since George Halas to own a team when his Carolina Panthers joined the NFL.  He has owned and operated the team ever since.

The Panthers lost the 2015 Super Bowl to Peyton Manning’s Denver Broncos.  Coldplay was part of the Half Time Show.
