History

For those of you who, like me think that the aforementioned Twelve Days of Christmas is one of the dumber Christmas songs, well, think again.  The history surrounding the origins of Twelve Days is kind of interesting (click here.) 

As for the theory that the Twelve Days originated as a clever code or “underground catechism” for persecuted Catholics in King Henry’s England to get their message out, the Snopes folks deemed that to be incorrect (click here.)  Another source also noted that the song has been around since 1780 long before the English-Catholic throw down transpired (click here.)  So, who knows what the damn song is really all about?!  


However, all that said, I do have to admit that I have elevated my opinion of Twelve Days ever so slightly now that I know some of the history and controversy associated with it.  Guess that it’s only a matter of time before a case is made that the Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer is really about some secret Communist society trying to take over the world!  That Putin at it again!
