Heard the tune Groovy Kind of Love the other day and it got me wondering about its origins, the Mindbenders, Phil Collins etc..
I’d always thought that it was Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders who had recorded the song but learned that Wayne left the group and that this was the Mindbenders first big hit without him (click here.)
Post-Mindbenders, Wayne had several skirmishes with the law (click here) including a crazy incident where he set fire to a bailiff’s car with the bailiff in it (click here.)
I liked the Mindbenders version of Groovy Kind of Love but thought Phil did it a little more justice by slowing it down some and making it less bubble gummy. Plus his video is much better in a sad/old love kind of way. It’s all about those optics you know?
Fontana’s last hit was a good one too.
