Parentalia

The ancient Romans used to mark 13 February as the start of a week long celebration known as their Parentalia Festival.  As implied in its name, Parentalia  was a time to recognize one’s ancestors.  Unlike other Roman knock down, boozed up, orgy parties however, Parentalia was a more reflective and somber occasion.  Think Catholic Lent, which ironically, or maybe not so, usually starts around this time of year.   

So today why not take a moment  to think of your ancestors who have gone before you?  More importantly, why not take a moment to go visit any of those ancestors who are still alive?   All you got to do is show up, say hello and ask “How you doing?”  Believe me, you will get an earful but you will also make an old person very happy.
