After I mentioned the Beatles in yesterday’s post, I caught the T-V show Sunday Morning wherein they discussed the marriage of John and Yoko on 20 March 1969.
In just maybe my Numero Uno Favorite Beatles tune of all time, the Ballad of John and Yoko (click here) describes how they got hitched on the spur of the moment and then did their silly Bed In stunt for their honeymoon.
John summarized all of this in his song which was banned by some radio stations because of the reference to Christ. (Re: some of his other lyrics in the song, I never knew what the “50 acorns tied in a sack” was a reference to. So I Googled it and found that it has something to do with another stunt they pulled by donating a bench and some acorns to Coventry Gardens (click here.) (I just can’t resist the terrible pun about how nuts they both were.)
And here is the song. Paul’s bass work in this is up there among my Top Five favorite bass lines in all of rock history along with My Girl, We Gotta Get Out of This Place, Come As You Are and Live With Me (Bill Wyman/Stones.)
