Maundy Thursday

Happy Maundy or Holy Thursday and don’t forget to get your feet washed later at the evening celebration.  Here is some info on the ritual:

I forget the priest who  years ago at St. Michael’s Church in Ridge implemented the washing of the feet ritual on Holy Thursday. He asked my Mom to participate but she declined. Mom was not into taking clothes or anything off during Mass much less letting someone wash her feet.

I have to agree with Mom on this one as it has to be one of the more dumber things that Catholics are encouraged to do.  As for making no sense at all, it’s up there with other crazy Lenten rituals like smudging ashes on your forehead on Ash Wednesday and hanging up pieces of palm around your house.

So if you are one of the Chosen who opt to get your feet cleansed later this evening, then my best to you and shake a toe for me while you’re at it.

But for the rest of us unsaved and lost-in-the wilderness-souls, we’ll just take a hot shower and hope that God doesn’t really care nor notice just who cleaned our feet for us.

I’ve played R.E.M.’s Losing My Religion several times previously, so how about this one from them instead:
