Guiliani at the Halekulani

Although I don’t particularly care for him nor his act, Rudy Guiliani nevertheless brings up a very pleasant remembrance for me.  Every time I see or hear him lying appearing on T-V, I am reminded of the following:

Several years ago Pam and I were visiting Daughter Ryan in Honolulu.  To celebrate my birthday, Ryan arranged for us to dine at the Orchids Restaurant in the famed Halekulani Resort Hotel where the rich and famous stay when they visit Honolulu.  Ryan used to work there and because of her “connections” we were able to reserve one of their nicer tables in the Orchids restaurant with a great view of the water.

As we were being seated, the waiter, who was a friend of Ryan’s, teased her by saying “Wow, to have Ryan Ridgell and Rudy Guiliani here on the same night, now that’s something!”  With that he nodded towards a couple seated a few tables over from us and sure enough it was Mr. Mayor himself with a lady whom I assumed was his then wife Judith.

We proceeded to have a great time and a great dinner complete with a birthday cake for me.  (No, the wait staff did not come out and sing Happy Birthday to me.  I was not upset about that omission on their part.)

Meanwhile the Guiliani’s did their thing and left and that’s the end of my encounter with them limited and such as it was.

However, every time I see or hear mention made of ole Rudy, a mental image of the Halekulani runs thru my mind and brings back that warm memory of being there enjoying myself that particular evening.  Guess I should be more grateful to and not so critical of Rudy after all!

Nice little, upbeat video here featuring a Romanian singer Yamira.   I kind of like any song that uses the “Cher Effect” as this one does.
