From Robert to Ryan to Gloria – 1-2-3

Long story here so hang with me while I spin it out for you.

My Robert Plant post the other day put me in the mood to listen to some Led Zepp.  So I cranked up the old CD player.  However, when I went looking for them I found that all I had was one of their CD’s and that one was missing.  (This lack of Zeppelin on CD, stems from my back-in-the-day resolution that I would never buy a CD of anything that I had previously purchased on vinyl or tape.  Save for that one CD of theirs’ that I once had, all of the Zeppelin stuff I own is on vinyl resting in the milk crates in my attic.  Hence, I don’t have anything of theirs’ on CD.)

Pissed that I wasn’t going to get my Zepp fix, it occurred to me that I may be able to find some of their stuff in my daughter Ryan’s CD collection.  (Awhile back, when she moved from Oahu to Maui, Ryan sent me two CD holders chock full of her collection.)

Ryan’s CD Collection

So I set about thumbing thru Ryan’s CD’s looking for anything Zeppelin.  Ryan’s musical tastes skew mostly to reggae and while I found lots of Ziggy, Toots and Burning Spear, I did not come up with anything Zeppelin.

However, I did come across this one from RHCP titled Blood Sugar Sex Magik.

It made me smile and instantly took me back to the early 90’s when Gloria, a co-worker at the time, had given me this CD.  Gloria had purchased it because she really liked the Chili Peppers’ song Under the Bridge.  However, she wasn’t ready for the rest of their repertoire on the CD and ultimately did not care for it.  Hence, she had passed it along to me and in turn I had given it to Ryan.

Once I saw the CD in Ryan’s collection, I pulled it out of the plastic sleeve holder and took it with me to listen to on my way down to the Store that day.
Under the Bridge remains my favorite song on the CD too.  However, with other songs like Suck My Kiss, Give it Away and Naked in the Rain, I could see why Gloria didn’t particularly care for the rest of the CD.

Once at the Store doing my routine of cleaning and stocking, I thought some more about Gloria, and decided to try and contact her.  I knew that she had moved back to her hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico but I have not heard from her these many years.  I did the Facebook thing and sent her a message but have yet to hear from her.  When/if I do I will let you know how she is doing.

Under the Bridge
I’ve played for you a couple times previously so how’s about I conjure up another lady named Gloria for your listening/viewing pleasure?  Ms. Estefan was a favorite of my friend Gloria who loaned me several of her CD’s to copy.  This tune was on one of those CD’s.  As with Under the Bridge, whenever I hear anything from this Gloria I always think of the Gloria I once knew.
