Another feature of the month of October has to do with it also being the start of the deer hunting season. That it commences just about the time deer are in the early stages of their rut means that hunters’ odds of nailing a good sized buck are usually very good.

Ah yes, that age old male sport of looking for a hot doe. (Or for some males – that age old sport where any doe will do, hot or not!)
But for those of us who simply don’t have that urge to sit out in the woods for hours at a time waiting for some horny deer to stroll our way, this time of year can be hazardous for not just the deer. It is also when the highways are full of looking-to-get-laid deer crossing all over the place. A buddy of mine told me just the other day how a deer hit him broadside on Indian Bridge Road causing over $1,000 worth of damage to his car. Deer obviously aren’t aware of that caution to look both ways before crossing the road.
Thus, deer-vehicle crashes are particularly bad during this time of year. Here are some tips for trying to avoid having Bambi splattered across your windshield:

Another tip I always heard is that if you see one deer cross the road up in front of you, immediately slow down and be on the lookout for more because they usually travel in pairs or herds.
No sure what this particular deer was doing or looking for, but he sure can play the drums can’t he?
