I have long maintained that obituaries should be published before someone dies. My reasoning is twofold in that a) we can learn about that person and maybe thank him/her for what they have accomplished during their time here in this Country Store of life; and b) it might inspire some of us to do more and perhaps be a better person ourselves while we are still here.
I thought of this the other day as I read Mike Malay’s obituary printed in the local paper. I encourage you to take a moment and read it (click here.)
As the obit cites, Mike’s life was one truly based upon “service above self.” He and his wife Maggie were both very active in the local community. Individually and together they made significant contributions that enabled the County to be a much better place to live. They were folks we should all try to emulate.
