I have struggled mightily to keep the Buzzyblog apolitical this election cycle. Save for an occasional comment here or there on our Idiot in Chief, I have been very restrained. And now with only 1 day left of this crapola, all I can say is – thank God it’s almost over. Regardless your political leanings, we can all agree that our current election process for National, State-wide and local elections is all hosed up. There has to be a better way than how it is now done.
Here then is one simple remedy that won’t cure all of our election problems, but would give us and the candidates running for office some precious time back in all our lives – make the election cycle shorter.
Keeping it local, all of the candidates I have talked to as they trundle thru Buzzy’s Country Store schlepping for votes agreed with me that it is too drawn out a process. All of them also made remarks that they too would be very relieved once it is done and over with. Most of them have spent just about all of 2018 in campaign mode. Some who filed to run as early as last year, have now spent almost two years running for a local office. (I won’t even begin to talk about money and how much is being spent to run for office. But that would be another suggestion I would offer – limit the amount of money that candidates can spend.)
Here then is the current election schedule from the St. Mary’s Board of Elections:

My suggestion – compress the entire process. As with anything painful that you have to endure, the quicker you do something and get it over with, the quicker you can move on. Pretty simple actually.
Little bit of a tear jerker tune for you but the title fits, so voilà:
P.S. Don’t forget to vote.
