Post Trip Thoughts

Hand in the Sand – Punta del Este, Uruguay

Following a trip, it usually takes me a week or so to get back to where I need to be.  Buzzy’s Country Store doesn’t afford me any time in doing so however, because there’s always beer and booze to be bought, tax stuff to file, apartment problems to deal with and lots of other things to do to catch up.  I’m not implying that any of this is a monumental task, but still it’s something that I got to do before I can slide back into my ” normal routine” whatever that is.

Bottom line, it’s not a problem at all.  I am very grateful to my Buzzy clerks Jenny, Rachel, Anna, Kayla, Lisa, Terri, and BJ who kept the Store open and rocking thru the holidays while I was away.  Unlike Buzzy, who once he left for a trip was able to completely forget about the Store, I can not not think about it when I am away.   I stay in constant communications with step daughter Jenny and she keeps me informed on what all is happening in my absence.  As they say, it’s a mixed blessing I guess.

After a couple days back in the hood however, I feel as if I never left.  It reminds me of something I once read that noted shorter vacations are more beneficial to you than are the longer week or two week kind (click here.)

But coming back home and catching up with all my family and friends rejuvenates me as much as the relaxation and vacation away did.  Pam and I watched a good documentary on Quincy Jones the other night that is well worth checking out.  At one point in the movie, Quincy offers up a toast that goes “May you always have love to share, health to spare and friends who care.” That sounds pretty good to me. Sometimes you need to leave your home, your family and your friends just to appreciate them all the more when you do return!
