In keeping with my “Birds” theme of the week, today I’d like to tell you about an exchange I had with a couple of birdwatchers in Buzzy’s Country Store last weekend.
They had looked around the Store for abit and as they did so, I asked them if they were just out riding and driving around. They informed me that they had travelled down from Baltimore to someplace called Bush Town or Bush Ville or Bush something they couldn’t be sure. I suggested Bushwood and they said “That’s it.”
I followed up with asking them what they were doing visiting Bushwood. They told me that they came to look at a Rock Wren and showed me a photo of one via their cell phone.
I asked them “What’s so great about a Rock Wren that you’d drive from Baltimore to Bushwood to see it?” They informed me that it is very unusual to see one this far east as the Rock Wren are a western United States bird mostly in Colorado in the Rockies. Confirming all that, I found this info:

I then asked them how they had found out about it being in Bushwood and they said it had been posted on Maryland Bird Watchers’ website somewhere. My final question had to do with “How did that little rascal end up here?” They said they think it has something to do with the storms and hurricanes that we’ve had recently. They were headed to Pt. Lookout so I didn’t want to delay them anymore than I already had by asking what I’m sure they considered to be very dumb questions.
However, yesterday I travelled over to the 7th District to check in on a jobsite that my son Brady is working on and it got me wondering “Where is that Rock Wren? Maybe I’ll check him out too.” I muddled thru several bird watcher websites to see if I could find any info on it but struck out. The Baltimore ladies had told me that the “owner” of the bird, resides in a neighborhood and had requested that birdwatchers set up appointments to see the Wren in order to minimize traffic and parking concerns.
I made a couple phone calls to some folks I know in the Bushwood area but didn’t find out any additional info as to where exactly the Rock Wren is hanging out. If anybody in the 7th has any info on where the Rock Wren is, please let me know.
Rockin’ Robin was a hit song recorded by Bobby Day in 1958. His real name was Robert Byrd. I guess Rockin’ Robin by Bobby Byrd would have sounded kinda funny. Go figure.
